Element began with the intention of making a modular seating system with an emphasis on expandability. Its form and construction were inspired by hand-crafted, overlapping, bent wood Shaker boxes. Element’s upholstered cushion is also its lid, which opens up to a storage space.

The textile on the upholstered cushion can take advantage of Element’s modularity and can be used to create different patterns for each space it’s in. Element was meant for public and private spaces with many people. It gives them a place to rest and get their jacket, or shopping bags out of the way.
